Here are some of the nice things people have said about us…
“Remember when emo was actually emo? Me neither but the riduculously stylish Married to the sea sure seem to. Straight up strings and merry korg-keys linger beneath the slightly west coast squeals of singer Nick, all managing to come off a little like Death Cab but braver. ‘Great now i’m in love’ though is a fearless slab that struts around in the jerky pop mould of Weezer, and tune after tune MTTS are truly coming into their own.”
ARTROCKER
“A delicious slice of indie pop, arch like prime Nada Surf but delivered with the coolness personified of Stephen Malkmus.”
SUBBA CULTCHA
“Classic songs. Ever feel like you don’t hear enough of them? This hook-driven quartet could just be the band you’re looking for. Taking influence from The Weakerthans, Ted Leo and Death Cab to name but three, there’s a healthy pop sensibility to MTTS’ intelligent brand of indie-pop, and tunes like “Great! Now I’m In Love” have a tendency to burrow into your skull and make themselves at home. Investigate immediately.”

“Married To The Sea, describe their music as ‘rowdy pop’ and the evidence here is that they deliver, albeit with a lot more refinement than that might suggest. “Time Plus Distance” might be a good example and it’s definitely a great start. It begins gently enough with grand indie melodies attached to proudly lolling bass lines; yet you’ll find yourself on something of an epic journey, where the highlights are suggested by a gentle flutter of distortion and where the harmonies swell like big waves. “Metropolitan” is a great chunk of leftfield pop pulsing on a heavy bass line and the ever so slight burble of electronica. On “Quite A Spell” the Liverpool based quartet then take a detour into a gentle series of acoustically carried melodies. “White On Pink” is their final giddy fusion of wild disco and driven math-pop, that seems to have the fun filled idea that it’s a combination of “Echo Beach” and the theme from “Flashdance”

“Married to the Sea come from Liverpool, which, being a major port, may be the source of this wilfully obtuse name. Or they could be named after an internet comic (Google it). Who knows. What’s important is that the band are consummate practitioners of the angular, churning but free flowing US college rock that splattered the late 90’s. Despite their sometimes intricate arrangements, the songs always retain a thrilling propulsion and the band aren’t afraid to slow things down or vary up the dynamics.”
SANDMAN MAGAZINE
“Having existed for a while now, one must wonder why this band hasn’t been rocketed into the ever-growing stratosphere of indie-rock stardom. Their set kicked off in fine fashion with Fuzzy riffs and addictive melodies pouring from every conceivable nook and cranny. Tracks such as ‘Great now I’m in love’ and ‘Crash hams’ exhibit the groups talent for writing sugary power pop, the kind Seth would approve of if the Oc was still running. Their songs remind me of early Weezer and in places the vocal harmonies create similarities to Hot club de Paris. Their top quality pop delivered a highly entertaining set and didn’t fail to wake up a rather stagnant looking crowd.”

“Hand picked to represent Liverpool at this years Glastonbury this summer, you’d be hard pressed to find a more fitting selection o0f scouse talent. Talent like Married to the sea, whose chug along fair ground keys and Death Cab squeals make for an unashamedly brilliant start.”
THE FLY
“Married To The Sea on the other hand, play a storming set with a mix of American-influenced indie to a now full tent. Using their Scouse wit to win the crowd over with their fair share of Grace Jones jokes they seem genuinely excited to be playing and go as far as hailing the festival as the best in the UK. They play’Great Now I’m In Love’ and ‘Before the Gloriette’, all joyfully received.”

“They are a four-piece from Liverpool playing intelligent, US college rock-influenced indie-pop with great harmonies and a relaxed confidence that was hugely appealing. And they all swapped instruments for one song which always impresses me. They were selling their EP at the end. Now in the past I have been more than happy to part with two pounds for a no-brand CDR with felt-pen scrawl and photostat cover. But Married To The Sea give you three songs on a professionally pressed CD with a very smart full-colour cover for your two pounds. Lead song ‘Great, Now I’m In Love’ is worth the admission price alone. Ones to investigate immediately.”
